Can’t see anything when you close your eyes? Oh yes you can! Focus your attention on the insides of your eyelids and you’ll discover what’s called an afterimage. In a workshop I run, which includes meditation, I guide participants to direct their attention towards their inner eye and describe in detail the images and colours they see there. These audio recordings bear witness to how moving, colourful and rich in contrast afterimages are and highlight the dependency—but also the lack of correspondence—between sights and language.
